Okay, so those of you who have read my post on the different types of Alpha Hydroxy Acids already know that I think that Glycolic Acid is pretty much the best thing since sliced bread. If you haven’t already read that then I’ll do a quick re-cap for you: It’s a great exfoliant – it works by breaking down the bonds between dead skin cells on the outer-most layer of the skin which contribute to clogged pores and a dull complexion. Long term use can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and smooth out an uneven skin tone. And I know that Glycolic Acid makes it sound kind of scary, but it’s derived from sugar cane so it’s completely harm free as long as you use it correctly.

Okay, so now that you understand my reasoning behind why Glycolic Acid is the cat’s pyjamas, let’s talk about the products that you can find it in. Here at Esstudio we obsess over La Clinica’s Gly C Refine range which is a great source of not only Glycolic Acid, but Vitamin C. Vitamin C works wonders for collagen production as well as being an anti-oxidant – what more could you ask for? The range uses certified organic ingredients so you just know that you’re not rubbing any nasties into your skin. The products range from 3% Glycolic Acid to 12% Glycolic Acid, obviously depending on where/how the product should be applied and for how long. The cleanser and moisturisers come in both 5% and 10% options – you start out on the 5% to get your skin accustomed to the Glycolic Acid and then POW! You step it up to the 10% forĀ  extra smoothing, refinement and hydration.

At Esstudio we offer a Gly C Refine Facial which provides the ultimate Glycolic experience. I’m talking about a Double Cleanse, a Micro-Dermabrasion Scrub, another Cleanse, the Gly C Refine Mask, a Glycolic Peel and to top it all off we finish with a Soothing Mask. We also apply some moisturiser and eye cream before you leave. We recommend coming in for one of these treatments when you purchase your Glycolic products to jump start your new skin care routine with a total overhaul and so that you can experience these products being used properly so that you don’t make any silly mistakes like scrubbing to hard.

The whole La Clinica Gly C Refine Retail Range includes:
-Gly C Gentle Facial Cream Cleanser 5%
-Gly C Active Wash Gel 10%
-Gly C Toning Mist 8%
-Gly C Gentle Day Cream 5%
-Gly C Gentle Night Cream 5%
-Gly C Active Day Cream 10%
-Gly C Active Night Cream 10%
-Gly C Anti Wrinkle Eye Cream 3%
-Gly C Micro Dermabrasion Facial Scrub 12%
-Vitamin C Ultra Serum

Now, I’m sure that by now you are more than aware that tanning is skin cells in trauma and that skin cancer is the most common of all cancers in Australia. Which is definitely scary but admittedly never stopped me from laying out in the sun for hours on end trying to achieve the perfect bronzed bod.

We all strive for the ultimate golden complexion because we want to look beautiful, right? Well, what if I told you that sun damage is the number one reason for premature ageing in Australia? Don’t believe me? Well get this – I have a friend who is six years older than me; her entire life she has been extremely aware of applying sunblock every day before she leaves the house and again around lunch time. I did not. And now, she looks younger than me. I’m talking about a twenty-four year old woman being asked for ID when entering a pub because she looks sixteen or seventeen. It’s ridiculous.

Not ready to pass up on a tanned bikini body this summer? Don’t stress – spray tans are the easiest (and safest) way to get your glow on! Technology has come a long way in the past few years so you needn’t freak about looking like an oompa-loompa. It’s all about choosing the right base tone for your colouring. If you have a pale complexion, then a product with a green base will give your skin some warmth underneath the brown. If you already have a warm skin tone then you should use a product with a blue or violet base to avoid looking too yellow. Because jaundice is never a good look.

At Esstudio we use Techno Tan for our spray tans – it comes in a wide variety of colours and in both express tans and long-wear 8-hour options. It lasts between 5 and 10 days, depending on your natural colouring and how well you maintain your tan! (Stay tuned for a post on the best ways to get the most wear out of your spray tan)
