Are you aware of the potential dangers of your pretty named nail polish ?
With cute names like bubble bath or Strawberry shortcake,  are you blinded from the potential dangers of these polishes?  With some scary ingredients that are known cancer causing chemicals and those toxic to the nervous system.

The top three worst chemicals of concern are toluene, dibutyl phalate (dbp) and formaldehyde – the TOXIC TRIO.

DBP is now banned from cosmetics in the EU, but the other two are still allowed.
It is a commonly used to make plastic.  It is also used as an additive to adhesives or printing inks.  It is a suspected endocrine disruptor.  Meaning its bad for your hormones!

Toluene, a solvent and pain thinner, is a potent neurotoxicant ( toxic to the nervous system) that acts as an irritant, impairs breathing and causes nausea, according to EWG. It’s especially hazardous if your pregnant, as breathing in toluene vapours can harm your unborn baby.

Formaldehyde, on the other hand, is commonly found in nail-hardening formulas and is a known allergen classified as “carcinogenic to humans”.  We’ve all heard of formaldehyde.
I’ve had a few clients that have said their nail has fallen off using nail hardeners.  It is the main ingredient in hardeners. Formaldehyde is highly toxic to all animals, regardless of method of intake. Ingestion of 30 mL (1 oz.) of a solution containing 37% formaldehyde has been reported to cause death in an adult human.[28] Water solution of formaldehyde is very corrosive and its ingestion can cause severe injury to the upper gastrointestinal tract.  There is so many wrong things with Formaldehyde.

Fortunately, a number of beauty brands, including some mainstream ones, are now phasing out these chemicals, and are proudly 3 free already. A few have gone 4 and 5 by also excluding Formaldehyde resins from their formulas and / or camphor, a strong smelling plasticizer that can be an irritant in large amount.

We are seeing more out’a control beards than one can handle! Lets just sort one thing out, put it this way… How would you like us to walk around with long untamed hairy muff’s, eewwww… Mmm I don’t think so, take a trip to your local barber and have a clip and a shave… You may even enjoy it! The Barbershop is so trending right now.  It’s ok to grow that beard.. just not out of control.  It doesn’t look or feel nice, especially when your going in for a good old pash.  The esstudio crew is doing fab old fashioned style shaves and clipper clean ups, nourishing those beards chemical free (that’s right no nasties ingredients) Handsome devil Co these products are awesome.

A bit good ol’ history.

Do you know what the red, white and blue pole represent?. Well that is associated with bloodletting and was a representation of bloody bandages wrapped around the pole.  In the Medieval times early 1900’s your local barber and physician were one and the same man.  Barbers performed surgery on customers as well as tooth extractions and cut their hair too!  This went on for 6 centuries.  Next time you come in for a hair cut maybe we will pull that tooth out too!! YIKES! Only men visited barber shops, originally all hairdressing on women was done in the home, usually by the wives and daughters of barbers.  Wow how things have changed.

Soon in the salon you will be seeing our restored barber chairs appear.  These chairs have a lot of history.  If only they could speak.  Made in the early 1900’s by Louis Hanson there aren’t too many of these around anymore.  Here is one pictured above…Look closely though… .. Are they having a shave or his he having a tooth removed???

BE KIND

Orangutan2_468x619

Did you know that the single greatest threat facing orangutans today is habitat loss? The expanding palm oil industry has been a key factor of this deforestation. It sucks because a large percentage of hair and beauty products contain palm oil, but here at Esstudio Galleria we make a conscious effort to only use products that are free of all palm oil.

THE UNDERCUT

It’s been undercut central here at Esstudio lately. With our clients drawing inspiration from celebrities like Rihanna (Thank God her mullet style didn’t take off) it’s becoming more and more popular every day. What do you think? Are you brave enough to take the plunge?

I think that this will be my summer haircut

Okay, so everybody knows that with summer comes a new hair cut, right? And after watching countless beautiful ladies walk out the doors of Esstudio Galleria with a cute, easy-to-maintain bob atop their heads, I’ve decided to take the plunge. But it’s not that simple. With a short haircut comes a whole new world of possibilities. There’s long bobs, pixie cuts, choppy bobs, wavy bobs, sleek bobs, concave bobs – it’s all pretty overwhelming.

And so after hours of scouring the web in search of the ultimate bob I came across this picture of the beautiful Dianna Agron. I am officially in love with this hair. This is it. I’ve found the one.
