Pump those brows.

Bold fuller brows are so 2014!

Blame it on Cara Delevingne who I loveeeeee!

But what are you supposed to do if you aren’t blessed in the brow department or you tweezed them all out in the ’90s because you loved Pamela Anderson or are you simply scared of augmenting your assets with a little pencil and powder action?

I’m here to help and give you a few pointers. As I’ve had experience.. I tweezed way to much in the 90’s and therefore have to tend to my brows every day with love and care.  I’ve tried to grow them back over the last couple of years but it’s just not happening! :(

Tweezing

The first step to your brows is tweezing and knowing where to tweeze.  Using your eyeball as a guide, line up the handle of the makeup brush on the outer edge of or your iris. Wherever it hits—that’s your arch. You should have a natural arch in your brows that you should follow. This is where you’ll take the most hair. But keep in mind that may only be a few hairs or a lot of blondies.. Depending on how hairy those brows are :) Remember to also hold your skin tight with the other hand while tweezing.  This will help with the pain and also prevent the hair from breaking.

Use this diagram as a guide.  But be careful not to take to much from the top and ends of your brows.  The ends are always the hardest to grow back.

Filling your brows in

You can fill in your brows with a pencil or powder and an angled brush—use whichever one you’re most comfortable with. If your brows are particularly sparse, I suggest a two-step approach. First use a pencil painting wispy light feathery strokes to create the illusion of real hairs and create the shape then  a powder to soften the pencil with a small angled brush.  I also like to brush the hairs with a clean mascara wand during this whole process to smooth it all out even more.

Natural brow look but still drawn in.  Follow the instructions above.

Heavy Brows…  Yes these are the fashion right now.
There is nothing natural about this look.. Be heavy handed.  Draw a square lines with that pencil or gel liner an accentuate the points.   Then fill it in with a shadow of a touch lighter shade.

Bridal Series Part IIl: Makeup

ivanka-trump-bridal-makeupWhen it comes to bridal makeup, its all about enhancing your natural beauty, and making your best features pop!  So before we get to the makeup, have a look at our previous post on how to prep your skin for your big day, beautiful makeup starts with beautiful skin.

First thing to ask yourself is, what is the weather going to be like? This is very important because if your day is on a hot summers day, by the time your ceremony is finished your face would have melted off and we don’t want that do we now. NO!  So applying a  oil control foundation primer such as Becca Mattfying Primer will allow your foundation to stay on longer.

wedding-makeup-looks-naturalNext thing is complexion, before you choose a foundation you should already know what you skin type is so you can get a foundation with the right formula for your skin type to achieve that flawless look, a favorite of ours is Nars Sheer Glow/Matte, its a sheer to full coverage. To set the foundation  you want to use a translucent to hold that foundation so it wont move an inch! Ben Nye Banana Powder is a little paradise in a bottle, unlike other translucent powders that give you that white cast in photos.

The trick to getting a striking yet subtle eye look, less is more. Stick with neutrals and colours that compliment your eye colour. Stay away from a harsh black liner, as black liner tends to look very harsh in photos, especially if they are black and white. If you want to give your eyes a shape then use a brown black liner and smudge it slightly. We recommend  the Mac X15 warm/cool Neutral Pallette as it has a wide range of neutral colours that will suit any style of makeup a bride could want.

495daebeb752adeca4453c057f6ca280As mentioned ealier about bridal makeup, less is definitely more and we couldn’t stress that anymore when it comes to your cheeks.  A slight amount of blush is enough as I’m sure you will naturally be blushing anyway! To complete your look, apply nice nude lipstick that is very close to your natural lip colour, you can always change the lip colour to a  sexy bold red lip as you get ready to get down on the dance floor! Be sure to choose a long lasting lip colour.

Bridal Beauty Part 1

So you got the rock, firstly yay! (insert squeal here!) secondly where the heck do we start!?

modern-photographics

Bridal beauty has to be sectioned into 2 parts- hair and beauty. Why? Cause its a mammoth of a job!! But totally fun in the lead up to your big day!

Never again will you be able to get away with “what? (my future to be husband that put a ring on my finger so your basically stuck now) I need to have a facial every second week to get my skin glowing for our magical day where we say I do” or
“what? (my adoring future husband that knows a happy wife equals a happy life) I need to see my hairdresser every two weeks in lead up to our special so my locks are looking silky and smooth and in perfect condition for my perfect up do”

All jokes aside, your hair and beauty regime should be ramped up to the lead up of “The Day”

Firstly Skin:  The point is to get your skin in as good shape as possible so your makeup looks fantastic, stays in place, behaves as it should, and you need less of it. And even the most close up shots of you, hours into the event, are lovely.

So here is what we recommend, A fortnightly facial: we have many different facials at Esstudio to suit time and budgets.   This will feed your skin with nutrients and get it healthy.
IPL treatments.. If you can afford these they are the gold!  Its advisable to have at least 3 treatments at 3 week intervals.. IPL removes sun damage and pigmentation, refines pores and stimulates collagen and elastin.  You skin will be like a baby’s bum!
Call us for a free skin consult.
Now the work doesn’t just stop in the salon, it is advised to continue at home..
La Clinicas GlyC range will get your skin looking fabulous for your wedding.

At least six weeks before, use a powerful, do-it-all, rejuvenating serum each night under a hydrating cream, Jax recommends La Clinica’s Caviar and Peral serum from their firming lift range, get a thorough exfoliation (this might mean a few peels (Esstudio’s GlyC miroderm facials will do the trick) and skin-boosting nourishment from traditional facials in the final month.

And lets not forget your brows, lash extensions and  paws and claws! All things that can be up kept at Esstudio.

Bangin’ Brows

First, before I even start… PUT THE TWEEZERS DOWN AND STEP AWAY FROM THE MIRROR! Yeah, I’m talking to you.
The most common problem with brows these days is over plucking!
Lets be honest, we have all done it, plucked those few extra hairs in hope of our brows magically turning out like Kim Kardashians, in reality they turn out like two skinny stick like figurines above each eye :-/

Out and about in Manhattan Downtown NYC, 02/02/06

I can not stress enough how important it is to find your ‘brow expert’ to sculpt, shape and colour your brows to suit you! Seriously once you find her or him, you will want to marry them! No Joke.

FYI, here at esstudio we take the time to perfect your face frame. Which includes, eyelash and eyebrow tint and brow wax to accentuate those peepers! Just ask for our face framing package, you wont regret it! Our in house beauty therapist Jacqui Arnold is the bees-knees of brow sculpting.  http://esstudio.com.au/menu/beauty/

Am I making myself clear here? Your brows are VERY important!

One visit a month is generally what it takes to keep those perfect brows of yours groomed.
A perfect brow will compliment your whole look and frame your face.
A few plucks here and there at home to maintain are acceptable, but lets not get crazy and leave it up to the experts….ok?!

eyebrowsshape
Here are some techniques a professional will take into consideration while working on you, they wont just fling wax around up there.  It is serious business, the expert will take the time to study your brows, your shape, the way the hair grows and then creatively and very delicately they will sculpt your brow to suit your face frame. Then ta-da!!!!! Insert bangin’ brows!

Brows have been an increasingly growing trend, gone are the days where we didn’t really care about our brow shape. As long as they weren’t bushy and fluffy and the mono brow wasn’t starting to form then we were just happy to have a clean smooth area.

Now its all about getting the perfect shape to suit your face and tone.
Fuller and thicker brows are in and here to stay!
So get amongst it! If you haven’t got quite as much hair to fill in those gaps, that are pretty obvious and sticking out from over plucking, don’t fret! There are so many more ways to ‘fill’ the brow line.

Some great tips are to use a brow pencil, or a brow shadow, or have your brows tinted regularly to keep that shape looking full and glam!
These are all easy enough to DIY at home, your personal brow expert will show you how and you will never look back!

Brow-a-licious!!

Sooooo… what are you waiting for?! Go and get your bangin’ brows!

Pretty Pastel Eyes

Forget about the smoky eye this summer – the next big thing is a light wash of colour dusted across your lids. The trend made its debut at Burberry, Rochas and Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring/Summer ’14 runway shows. Our resident Makeup Artist and Director of Esstudio Galleria, Jacqui Arnold, loves using Lime Crime shadows to achieve the ultimate pastel eye.
