Hairstylin 2015

hair 2015

Hair colour Verses skin colour.

Changing up your hair colour is never as simple as pointing at a model on the front of a magazine and proclaiming, “I want that!”

Your skin tone plays a major part in choosing the right colour for you, In fact, it’s less about the hair colour you like and more about what hair colour will suit your skin tone. The perfect hair colour will not only complement your skin-tone and make your best facial features pop, it also help you look years younger if its done right!   Lets face it, none of us want to look tired, un-natural, old or washed out…REally!

Skin Undertones and Hair Colour.

Your skin tone contains underlying pigments and less or more melanin. Naturally black or brown haired peeps will likely have warmer, earthy undertones in your skin like orange, brown, gold or orange-based red. Blondies or redheads will probably have cooler skin undertones like blue, green, pink or blue-based red.

So peeps with warmer skin tones will look better with a warmer hair color, like golden blondes or honey browns and orange reds. Those with cooler undertones in their skin will look better with cooler hair colors, like ash blonde, black or auburn browns

So here is an inside of whats ahead in the world of colour, Cheer’s to rockin’ 2015.

HAIRCOLOUR FOR 2015

Dark Highlights

Highlights-for-Dark-Brown-Hair-0113-11

All-over dark colour is a little solid but breaking it up with subtle tonal highlights softly brightens and adds gorgeous dimension. Upkeep is very minimal, since the highlights look most natural when they start mid-shaft and frame the face. Lily Aldridge is a perfect example of the trend. I don’t think Balyage will ever die out… Its such minimal upkeep!

Colour treatment: Free lights mid-legths to ends for a face framing effect, all over gloss injected with an colour-tone of colour to suit your skin.

Maintenance: Very low maintenance.  Only requires 4 visit a year to your salon, maybe gloss and a toner in-between

Cost:  from $150 – $300

Golden Brown

The soft spot between brown and red? Auburn, like Cara Delevingne’, she’s a chameleon we’ve seen her with every colour under the sun.. And Blake Lively here looks gorgeous as ever, always looks amazing!  Evan Rachael Wood rockin’ gorgeous auburn with golden highlights and pixie cut! Ask for subtle, thin chestnut highlights.

Colour treatment: Auburn all over & compliment with chestnut highlights to break it up.

Maintenance: Medium Every 6 – 8 weeks depending on how fast your hair grows.

Cost: from $250 – $300

Dirty Blonde

Going from brunette to blonde? Easing into a lighter colour  will be much better on your hair. Keep the roots darker and blended in with warm caramel and caramel highlights through the length. Love this look!

Colour Treatment: Tint or semi on the roots with Wella Freelights on the ends and possibly a toner.

Maintenance: Medium 8 – 10 weeks visits

Cost: $250 – $300

Bright Blonde

Bright, buttery blonde color, like sexy Gigi here, tends to be more flattering (and less maintenance) than platinum and much nicer on the skin. Look how her skin is glowing!

Colour Treatment: Lots of fine highlights with a few colour’s with soft tonal differences.

Maintenance: High maintenance visits to the salon every 6 weeks.

Cost: $200 – $300

Rose Gold

“This season is all about rose-golden locks,” .  It flatters all skin tones but looks best on pale skin.  Well I think so anyway.. You all know I’m a fan of the pale

Colour Treatment: Beautiful copper tint with some wella free lights to create texture.

Maintenance: High maintenance salon visits every 4 – 6 weeks.

Cost: First initial visit $250 then $150 – $200

Fashion colours

Guys these sorts of colours are very high maintenance. But if you have the patience you could be walking around with a very cool lookin colour!

Pastel colour. Grey – Blue – Purple are the most popular a Esstudio.   The hair needs to be lifted to a very light blonde before applying the fashion colour. A favorite of ours right now is a beautiful clean Grey!! Believe it or not!  This one looks best on pretty young things haha.

Love this ombre grey with a darker root and the Denim blue.

Why not try this colour at Esstudio
We were voted one of the top salons by Urbanlist!

Colour Treatment: Depends on what your colour is when you start – Lift your colour to the palest colour of blonde and apply high fashion colours to achieve the colour chosen.

Maintenance: Extremely high maintenance 4 weekly salon visits

Cost: Initial cost $300 – $500 and maintenance $200

Hairs Styles Verses Face Shapes

Coming into autumn soon, we think it’s the perfect time to heat things up with a new look. This season is all about texture, from fuzzy sweaters to fresh bouncy layers in our hair.

The secret to wearing a hairstyle trend lies in the cut and your hair texture and your face shape. e.g. a long bob works much better on a rounder face than the classic, chin-length bob. And when it comes to bangs, side-swept is your best bet if you have a long face.

Here are examples of a few face shapes.

Round face shape

If you have a round face, You should have your hair cut that hits below the chin or longer. You want to add a little length to your face.

Hairstyles with height and fullness at the crown will give the illusion of a narrower face shape, particularly those short in length.
Longer hairstyles or ones that are kept close to the cheeks with no width will look better.
Middle parts are great for creating the illusion of narrow length.

Oval face shape

Oval faces tend to look good in everything, but their faces can appear long with the wrong haircut.

Any shape and style can be worn, whether it’s short, long, layered or bobbed.
The thing to consider with an oval face shape is what part of your face you want to accentuate. This is where you can get creative with bangs and layers or how you style your hair everyday.

Long/Oblong face

Hairstyle that are short to medium in length with longer top layers without height are best suited.

Chin and shoulder length looks that turn under or kick out also work very well to add width.  Straight across bangs with side parts work best.
Layered styles in medium and long lengths that add body in with wavy and curly textures are great for softening the straight long lines of oblong face shapes.

HAIRCUTS FOR 2015

Pixie Rock

Chic-Messy-Short-Hairdos-2015

This season the usually sweet pixie cut gets a bad-arse makeover with shaved sides, spikes which really accentuate the sexiness of your cheekbones, neck, and jawline.

A little Ruffled up

Say goodbye to those stick straight angled bobs! This season is all about short, defined waves (like Sienna Miller’s) that effortlessly frame your face, or peek out from underneath your favourite Hat.

The Modern 70’s

2711084-taylor+swift

This popular cut takes inspiration from the 1970s beauty icon, but is still running strong and looks fab. The shoulder-length feathery layers will work with or without bangs like Taylor Swift’s and complement all face shapes.

The Blunt Cut

Though texture is trending, this blunt mid-length style is having a major moment, too. It has absolutely no layers, just a straight across cut with a bit of feathering at the ends, and works best on those with an oval face shape like Kendall Jenner.

Modern Beach waves

Instead of the been there, done that, mermaid waves that we usually see on the red carpet are in this season.

Expect to see choppy front pieces or bangs with some long layers adding lots of fabulous texture. This look has natural volume and an effortlessly easy, yet sexy vibe.

Blush or Bronzer??? What do you use?

Let’s get ready!
First apply some primer then your regular foundation.  Now use a foundation colour to totally match your natural skin colour.. If you want a bit of the sun-kissed look or some colour to your cheeks.  This is where we would use blush or bronzer.
But which do you grab????  Your blush or your bronzer?

Tricky situation, right? You almost feel like you should use one or the other?  Or do you even own both?  Wowzez!! Break them rules!

But guess what! You can actually use both :)  But it must be down right.  Who likes that look of a orange face when used too much bronzer???  Not me!

Bad bronzing!
o-MAKEUP-MISTAKES-570

Here’s a super-quick guide to work out the colour your cheeks should be sporting.

If you want to look like you have been to Hawaii.

Go for a little bronzer. The brown pigments will give your skin that I’ve-just-spent-a-week-in-the-Caribbean glow and if you choose one with some shimmer in it, it will give your skin an instant hit of radiance.

Apply your bronzer under your cheekbones, around your jawline, by your hairline and on your nose and chin. Lightly dust some on your neck, chest and décolletage for good measure and to make it all look natural.   Do not over do this step… sometimes bronzer can go terribly wrong!

Good bronzing.

2009-04-26_160344_bronzer02

If you want to contour:

Reach for the bronzer or a darker foundation.  Powder or creme, but make sure its free from any shimmer or glitter. The natural hue will help bring out your angles while adding warmth to your face.

Starting at your temples by the top of your ears and draw a three and coming down just under the chin line. Apply the bronzer or creme in the hollows of your cheeks.  Blend blend blend into your foundation so there is no harsh lines.  You can also apply the colour on either side of the bridge of your nose and at your temples. Your skin will look fabulous after this!

The three rule.. (done in blue here.. just so you can see) :) This is where you should contour.

Rule of 3

original

If you want your skin to look ‘awake’:

Blush time! Pink and peach blushes will help give your skin a wonderfully natural flush that almost looks like you’ve run all the way to work.  (without doing it) hehe

The key to a great blush application is to keep the colour light and not too brightly pigmented, otherwise you’ll lose that natural look.  And it will turn clown like!

If your face is round or oval, apply your blush on your cheekbones up towards your ears as this will help lengthen your face and add definition. For longer faces, apply your blush on the apples of your cheeks and extend the colour horizontally towards your ears.

Great Blushing!

how-to-apply-blush1

If you want an overall natural finish:

Use both!!  Wowzez… Who would have known. :)

Just make sure you don’t go overboard with how much you apply and make sure you blend the colour in properly.

Static cray cray hair!

Ok so my hair is looking pretty cray cray right now.

I’ve spend ages blowdrying my hair and as soon as I step outside and get a droplet of water on it, it goes completely frizzy!!!  So a beanie goes a long way… Not only keeps my head warm but hides frizzy hair..  But then I have static hair..  You know those bits of hair that just tend to stand upright..and just look wild! :)

orig

Dry, cold air often leads to statically electric hair. Whether it’s from brushing your hair after you blow-dry (don’t do it!) or your Winter hat, there are ways to fight this less-than-flattering hair dilemma, and they (almost) all have to do with hydrating to your hair.

Here are a few simple tips for eliminating static.

Hair treatments: Dry hair and dry Winter air are the perfect combination to create statically charged strands, so the added moisture will help stop the electric charge.
Add a mask to your hair routine.  If you have time leave it in for about 15 – 20 minutes.
This will add that moisture back to your hair that the cold dry winter has taken out.  Not only does your skin dry out in winter.. so does your hair!

HS11105_r2

Shampoo: Don’t do it so often. There are lot’s of reasons why not to shampoo your hair so often but skipping a shampoo can help prevent your hair from getting dried out, which leads to static and a lackluster mane — talk about a double whammy.

Leave in treatment or shine oil: Another way to add some moisture is to use a leave in treatment.  My absolute favorite is Sebastian Potion9.  This product is amazeballs. Its not cheap but its so worth it.  Not only does it act as a leave in treatment is has a slight hold to it and makes it really easy to style with.  Once you have dried your hair use a shine oil to smooth it out.

iStock_000014638034Large

Don’t Brush!: The friction from your brush will lead to charged particles that cause static electricity.  In fact I never brush my hair…It just turns into a frizz ball.  However best brush to use is the Angel brush, especially made for antic static and de-tangling hair.

26334145

Keratin: Now this is the B all and end all of all treatments!  Its a de-frizzing treatment not straightening.  Keratin naturally occurs in your hair.. So you are just putting back in that is naturally there!  Read here to find out more about the Brazilian keratin we do at Esstudio.

Hope this helps chicks.
