Blush or Bronzer??? What do you use?

Let’s get ready!
First apply some primer then your regular foundation.  Now use a foundation colour to totally match your natural skin colour.. If you want a bit of the sun-kissed look or some colour to your cheeks.  This is where we would use blush or bronzer.
But which do you grab????  Your blush or your bronzer?

Tricky situation, right? You almost feel like you should use one or the other?  Or do you even own both?  Wowzez!! Break them rules!

But guess what! You can actually use both 🙂  But it must be down right.  Who likes that look of a orange face when used too much bronzer???  Not me!

Bad bronzing!

Here’s a super-quick guide to work out the colour your cheeks should be sporting.

If you want to look like you have been to Hawaii.

Go for a little bronzer. The brown pigments will give your skin that I’ve-just-spent-a-week-in-the-Caribbean glow and if you choose one with some shimmer in it, it will give your skin an instant hit of radiance.

Apply your bronzer under your cheekbones, around your jawline, by your hairline and on your nose and chin. Lightly dust some on your neck, chest and décolletage for good measure and to make it all look natural.   Do not over do this step… sometimes bronzer can go terribly wrong!

Good bronzing.

If you want to contour:

Reach for the bronzer or a darker foundation.  Powder or creme, but make sure its free from any shimmer or glitter. The natural hue will help bring out your angles while adding warmth to your face.

Starting at your temples by the top of your ears and draw a three and coming down just under the chin line. Apply the bronzer or creme in the hollows of your cheeks.  Blend blend blend into your foundation so there is no harsh lines.  You can also apply the colour on either side of the bridge of your nose and at your temples. Your skin will look fabulous after this!

The three rule.. (done in blue here.. just so you can see) 🙂 This is where you should contour.

Rule of 3

If you want your skin to look ‘awake’:

Blush time! Pink and peach blushes will help give your skin a wonderfully natural flush that almost looks like you’ve run all the way to work.  (without doing it) hehe

The key to a great blush application is to keep the colour light and not too brightly pigmented, otherwise you’ll lose that natural look.  And it will turn clown like!

If your face is round or oval, apply your blush on your cheekbones up towards your ears as this will help lengthen your face and add definition. For longer faces, apply your blush on the apples of your cheeks and extend the colour horizontally towards your ears.

Great Blushing!

If you want an overall natural finish:

Use both!!  Wowzez… Who would have known. 🙂

Just make sure you don’t go overboard with how much you apply and make sure you blend the colour in properly.

Static cray cray hair!

Ok so my hair is looking pretty cray cray right now.

I’ve spend ages blowdrying my hair and as soon as I step outside and get a droplet of water on it, it goes completely frizzy!!!  So a beanie goes a long way… Not only keeps my head warm but hides frizzy hair..  But then I have static hair..  You know those bits of hair that just tend to stand upright..and just look wild! 🙂

Dry, cold air often leads to statically electric hair. Whether it’s from brushing your hair after you blow-dry (don’t do it!) or your Winter hat, there are ways to fight this less-than-flattering hair dilemma, and they (almost) all have to do with hydrating to your hair.

Here are a few simple tips for eliminating static.

Hair treatments: Dry hair and dry Winter air are the perfect combination to create statically charged strands, so the added moisture will help stop the electric charge.
Add a mask to your hair routine.  If you have time leave it in for about 15 – 20 minutes.
This will add that moisture back to your hair that the cold dry winter has taken out.  Not only does your skin dry out in winter.. so does your hair!

Shampoo: Don’t do it so often. There are lot’s of reasons why not to shampoo your hair so often but skipping a shampoo can help prevent your hair from getting dried out, which leads to static and a lackluster mane — talk about a double whammy.

Leave in treatment or shine oil: Another way to add some moisture is to use a leave in treatment.  My absolute favorite is Sebastian Potion9.  This product is amazeballs. Its not cheap but its so worth it.  Not only does it act as a leave in treatment is has a slight hold to it and makes it really easy to style with.  Once you have dried your hair use a shine oil to smooth it out.

Don’t Brush!: The friction from your brush will lead to charged particles that cause static electricity.  In fact I never brush my hair…It just turns into a frizz ball.  However best brush to use is the Angel brush, especially made for antic static and de-tangling hair.

Keratin: Now this is the B all and end all of all treatments!  Its a de-frizzing treatment not straightening.  Keratin naturally occurs in your hair.. So you are just putting back in that is naturally there!  Read here to find out more about the Brazilian keratin we do at Esstudio.

Hope this helps chicks.

Bridal Series Part IIl: Makeup

ivanka-trump-bridal-makeupWhen it comes to bridal makeup, its all about enhancing your natural beauty, and making your best features pop!  So before we get to the makeup, have a look at our previous post on how to prep your skin for your big day, beautiful makeup starts with beautiful skin.

30dae61e948d640403d9ed5197b5dbfe

First thing to ask yourself is, what is the weather going to be like? This is very important because if your day is on a hot summers day, by the time your ceremony is finished your face would have melted off and we don’t want that do we now. NO!  So applying a  oil control foundation primer such as Becca Mattfying Primer will allow your foundation to stay on longer.

wedding-makeup-looks-naturalNext thing is complexion, before you choose a foundation you should already know what you skin type is so you can get a foundation with the right formula for your skin type to achieve that flawless look, a favorite of ours is Nars Sheer Glow/Matte, its a sheer to full coverage. To set the foundation  you want to use a translucent to hold that foundation so it wont move an inch! Ben Nye Banana Powder is a little paradise in a bottle, unlike other translucent powders that give you that white cast in photos.

cd8c658d3c549a8769dce6cb2db167f2

The trick to getting a striking yet subtle eye look, less is more. Stick with neutrals and colours that compliment your eye colour. Stay away from a harsh black liner, as black liner tends to look very harsh in photos, especially if they are black and white. If you want to give your eyes a shape then use a brown black liner and smudge it slightly. We recommend  the Mac X15 warm/cool Neutral Pallette as it has a wide range of neutral colours that will suit any style of makeup a bride could want.

495daebeb752adeca4453c057f6ca280As mentioned ealier about bridal makeup, less is definitely more and we couldn’t stress that anymore when it comes to your cheeks.  A slight amount of blush is enough as I’m sure you will naturally be blushing anyway! To complete your look, apply nice nude lipstick that is very close to your natural lip colour, you can always change the lip colour to a  sexy bold red lip as you get ready to get down on the dance floor! Be sure to choose a long lasting lip colour.
