Pump those brows.

Bold fuller brows are so 2014!

Blame it on Cara Delevingne who I loveeeeee!

But what are you supposed to do if you aren’t blessed in the brow department or you tweezed them all out in the ’90s because you loved Pamela Anderson or are you simply scared of augmenting your assets with a little pencil and powder action?

I’m here to help and give you a few pointers. As I’ve had experience.. I tweezed way to much in the 90’s and therefore have to tend to my brows every day with love and care.  I’ve tried to grow them back over the last couple of years but it’s just not happening! 🙁

Tweezing

The first step to your brows is tweezing and knowing where to tweeze.  Using your eyeball as a guide, line up the handle of the makeup brush on the outer edge of or your iris. Wherever it hits—that’s your arch. You should have a natural arch in your brows that you should follow. This is where you’ll take the most hair. But keep in mind that may only be a few hairs or a lot of blondies.. Depending on how hairy those brows are 🙂 Remember to also hold your skin tight with the other hand while tweezing.  This will help with the pain and also prevent the hair from breaking.

Use this diagram as a guide.  But be careful not to take to much from the top and ends of your brows.  The ends are always the hardest to grow back.

Filling your brows in

You can fill in your brows with a pencil or powder and an angled brush—use whichever one you’re most comfortable with. If your brows are particularly sparse, I suggest a two-step approach. First use a pencil painting wispy light feathery strokes to create the illusion of real hairs and create the shape then  a powder to soften the pencil with a small angled brush.  I also like to brush the hairs with a clean mascara wand during this whole process to smooth it all out even more.

Natural brow look but still drawn in.  Follow the instructions above.

Heavy Brows…  Yes these are the fashion right now.
There is nothing natural about this look.. Be heavy handed.  Draw a square lines with that pencil or gel liner an accentuate the points.   Then fill it in with a shadow of a touch lighter shade.

Tips on Age cheating!

Want to learn how to cheat your age like Gwen?  Can you believe she is 42!  Amazeballs!

From your hands to your lashes and brows there are a multitude of small areas that will give away your age!

When cheating on your age, it’s important to pay attention to the small details.
We tend to forget about our hands when going in the sun or just out and about.  If you drive its usually this side that is worse!  The sun is the devil when it comes to aging.  Surely if I had know back in my school days I would have worn my gloves and hat when my school teachers bellowed at me to do so!

old handsSadly, the way to draw attention to your less-than-youthful-looking hands is to have a remarkably fresh face. The contrast immediately draws attention.   Your hands can tell your age more than your face these days! Check out Madge and Sarah.. YIKES!

Thankfully, it is reasonably easy to rejuvenate them. Age spots can be zapped away by Jax and her IPL machine. You will only need a couple of these to make your hands look 10 years younger!  IPL will not only remove the pigmentation it will also stimulate collagen and elastin and make your skin super soft!

Once you have the back of your hands looking younger, you may want to show off your fingers – not so easy when your nails are also showing the effects of ageing, including dryness and uneven surfaces like ridges and splits.

Have a Deluxe mani that will exfoliate and moisturize your hands as well as your nails.  This will also fix the ridges by buffing them out and making your nails super smooth!  Clipping all the dry cuticles off will work wonders!

Makeup – the trick is to appear as natural as possible and not too heavy on your eyes as this will highlight those wrinkles!  One of the latest craze is semi-permanent eyelash extensions. They will last providing you care for them properly, which includes brushing them and not using oil-based anything on your eyelids, you’ll still look great without any other eye make-up at all.  Its recommended to have regular 2 week infills to keep them looking perfect.  Check out our previous post on lashes!

Eyebrows – Sadly the hair does get less as we age!  One of my elderly clients quotes “the hair from my brows fell to my chin” haha. These days there are heaps of products out there that will help with this.  You can purchase products that actually can help your brows and lashes grow!  Then there is makeup to help.  Draw your brows in with a similar colour pencil while brushing with  a clean mascara brush at the same time.   This will help smooth out hard lines from the pencil.  You can also fill in with shadows.

So here are a few tips to help with aging… There are many many more too!  Why not come in for a facial and I can give you some tips!

Bridal Series Part IIl: Makeup

ivanka-trump-bridal-makeupWhen it comes to bridal makeup, its all about enhancing your natural beauty, and making your best features pop!  So before we get to the makeup, have a look at our previous post on how to prep your skin for your big day, beautiful makeup starts with beautiful skin.

First thing to ask yourself is, what is the weather going to be like? This is very important because if your day is on a hot summers day, by the time your ceremony is finished your face would have melted off and we don’t want that do we now. NO!  So applying a  oil control foundation primer such as Becca Mattfying Primer will allow your foundation to stay on longer.

wedding-makeup-looks-naturalNext thing is complexion, before you choose a foundation you should already know what you skin type is so you can get a foundation with the right formula for your skin type to achieve that flawless look, a favorite of ours is Nars Sheer Glow/Matte, its a sheer to full coverage. To set the foundation  you want to use a translucent to hold that foundation so it wont move an inch! Ben Nye Banana Powder is a little paradise in a bottle, unlike other translucent powders that give you that white cast in photos.

The trick to getting a striking yet subtle eye look, less is more. Stick with neutrals and colours that compliment your eye colour. Stay away from a harsh black liner, as black liner tends to look very harsh in photos, especially if they are black and white. If you want to give your eyes a shape then use a brown black liner and smudge it slightly. We recommend  the Mac X15 warm/cool Neutral Pallette as it has a wide range of neutral colours that will suit any style of makeup a bride could want.

495daebeb752adeca4453c057f6ca280As mentioned ealier about bridal makeup, less is definitely more and we couldn’t stress that anymore when it comes to your cheeks.  A slight amount of blush is enough as I’m sure you will naturally be blushing anyway! To complete your look, apply nice nude lipstick that is very close to your natural lip colour, you can always change the lip colour to a  sexy bold red lip as you get ready to get down on the dance floor! Be sure to choose a long lasting lip colour.

Bridal Beauty Part 1

So you got the rock, firstly yay! (insert squeal here!) secondly where the heck do we start!?

modern-photographics

Bridal beauty has to be sectioned into 2 parts- hair and beauty. Why? Cause its a mammoth of a job!! But totally fun in the lead up to your big day!

Never again will you be able to get away with “what? (my future to be husband that put a ring on my finger so your basically stuck now) I need to have a facial every second week to get my skin glowing for our magical day where we say I do” or
“what? (my adoring future husband that knows a happy wife equals a happy life) I need to see my hairdresser every two weeks in lead up to our special so my locks are looking silky and smooth and in perfect condition for my perfect up do”

All jokes aside, your hair and beauty regime should be ramped up to the lead up of “The Day”

Firstly Skin:  The point is to get your skin in as good shape as possible so your makeup looks fantastic, stays in place, behaves as it should, and you need less of it. And even the most close up shots of you, hours into the event, are lovely.

So here is what we recommend, A fortnightly facial: we have many different facials at Esstudio to suit time and budgets.   This will feed your skin with nutrients and get it healthy.
IPL treatments.. If you can afford these they are the gold!  Its advisable to have at least 3 treatments at 3 week intervals.. IPL removes sun damage and pigmentation, refines pores and stimulates collagen and elastin.  You skin will be like a baby’s bum!
Call us for a free skin consult.
Now the work doesn’t just stop in the salon, it is advised to continue at home..
La Clinicas GlyC range will get your skin looking fabulous for your wedding.

stem

At least six weeks before, use a powerful, do-it-all, rejuvenating serum each night under a hydrating cream, Jax recommends La Clinica’s Caviar and Peral serum from their firming lift range, get a thorough exfoliation (this might mean a few peels (Esstudio’s GlyC miroderm facials will do the trick) and skin-boosting nourishment from traditional facials in the final month.

And lets not forget your brows, lash extensions and  paws and claws! All things that can be up kept at Esstudio.

TOOLS OF THE TRADE – FOUNDATION

spongebrushWhen it comes to applying your foundation you have three options – a foundation brush, a foundation sponge and your fingers. Let me start by telling you to avoid using your fingers at all costs. Using your hands to apply your foundation can mean losing up to 50% of the product on your hand. Not cool.

Then we have the foundation sponge. The Beauty Blender has taken the industry by storm because of its egg-shaped ‘no edges’ design. This leaves a perfectly airbrushed complexion behind. A tip to prevent your sponge from absorbing too much product is to wet the sponge down with water first and then squeeze it all out before dipping into your foundation.

A stippling brush is perfect for foundation. The brush is made up of shorter natural bristles and longer synthetic bristles. The dual-fiber brush is used for buffing and stippling foundation into your skin. To ‘stipple’ foundation for an airbrushed look, dip just the very tips of the bristles into your liquid foundation and gently press it into your skin.
